# Build a dashboard for leadership

> Dashboards are grouped by audience. Give each one a single audience, then build, share and maintain it.

Kompass has several dashboards, built for different audiences, because what a board needs to see is not what a branch manager needs to act on.

## The groups

The **All dashboards** panel groups dashboards by purpose.

| Group | Built for |
| - | - |
| Dashboards | The finance team's working view: KPIs and trends, reviewed often. |
| Board Reports | The board and leadership: the summary position. |
| Departmental Plans | Department or branch heads: their own lines only. |
| Analysis | Working a specific question, such as a P\&L walk. |
| Custom | Anything else, such as a one-off board pack. |

We build your starting set with you during onboarding. After that they are yours to add to, rename or retire.

## What a dashboard holds

* **Title, description and status.** The description says who it is for; **draft** marks one still being built.
* **Sections**, such as **Financial Overview**.
* **KPI tiles**: one figure each, with its period underneath. Read the period before quoting the number.
* **Charts**, such as **Revenue vs Expenses Trend**.

## Steps

1. Click **+** at the top of the panel to start from scratch, or the **sparkle** icon to have Kompass propose one.
2. Add sections, KPI tiles and charts.
3. Use **settings** (the gear) for the title, description and group.
4. Use **export** for a copy, or **send** to distribute it.

**Delete** removes the dashboard, not the data.

> **Give each dashboard one audience.** One that serves the board, finance and six department heads is too detailed to present and too shallow to work from. Make two instead.
