Mapping tells Kompass which ledger account each budget line belongs to. Variance analysis, reports and dashboards all read from it, so this is the step to slow down on. A line mapped to the wrong account still looks plausible; it is just wrong. This is not Map your chart of accounts, which matches each ledger account to a budget line in Settings. Here you work from the budget side.

Where you are

A new budget opens in Review budget, one tab per uploaded sheet.

Steps

  1. Click Auto-map. Kompass matches what it is confident about and leaves the rest. Every match is visible and reversible.
  2. Accept the high-confidence suggestions. At 95% and above they are almost always direct name matches, such as Mombasa → 6702 Mombasa Branch.
  3. Read the lower ones. A score below that means Kompass made a judgement, and the reasoning says which. A CAPEX line mapped to gross PPE at 72% might belong to intangibles instead; only you know.
  4. For lines flagged Kompass could not auto-map this item, click Assign GL, search by code or name, check the account type, and click Assign.
Treat the score as a reading order, not a verdict. Start with the lowest. A 72% match accepted without reading is a decision made by default.
Asset and liability accounts sit side by side in the search results. Read the type before you assign.
