An annual budget in Kompass is one workbook, mapped to your ledger, approved once and tracked all year. This is the route through it; each step links to the guide with the detail.

1. Get the foundations in place

Do these once, before your first budget:
  • Connect your accounting system so actuals arrive on their own. See Bring in your actuals.
  • Match each ledger account to a budget line. See Map your chart of accounts.
  • Add your departments and any other way you report. See Set up dimensions.

2. Create the budget

In Budgets, click Upload new budget. In Create a new budget, choose how the figures arrive: Set the Fiscal year and Figures are in, which cannot be changed later. For a completed budget, also set Type of budget to Annual budget.

3. Map, review and approve

Point every budget line at a ledger account, clear the unmapped count on each tab, then make the budget live and approve it. See Map your budget and Finish and approve your budget. Approving locks the plan of record. Someone with the approval permission can choose Reopen budget from the ⋯ menu if it must change.

4. Share it

From the ⋯ menu choose Manage access and add people, roles or departments as Viewer, Commenter, Editor or Admin. See Roles and permissions.

5. Track it all year

Open Budget vs Actuals each month, after your books close. Ask owners to explain the variances that matter. See Track budget vs actuals.

6. Close the year

When the next year’s budget is approved, Archive this one. It stays available for comparison but drops out of day-to-day lists.
Archive, don’t delete. Approved and archived budgets cannot be deleted, so last year’s plan is always there to compare against.
